WORDPRESS BLOGGING-A BEGINNERS GUIDE
In the next few paragraphs I am going to convey to you how powerful a platform WordPress is for blogging and why I think and many other professionals think too, that its the must have system for blogging today. With this is in mind I really want to send out this message to you today in an easy to understand language rather than from a Greek programmers point of view. This is a beginners guide in a beginners language.
First of all blogging online has become an incredibly powerful way to get your message out into the world. Its a way for anyone with the most basic level of computer knowledge to simply set up a blog or website and simply start typing about virtually any subject your heart desires. And when your subject is a well written piece with a target market, then blogging is a terrific tool to use in terms of business marketing.
With that in mind it makes sense to use the best system around and that is WordPress.org
So Why Use WordPress.org
Blogging with WordPress.org has many many features to make note of, perhaps too many to relate in a beginners guide so lets just highlight the best ones.
Google and for that matter all the other search engines just love blogs and particularly WordPress. Google etc is always looking for fresh, quality filled articles or posts to rank in its search pages and blogging fits this bill nicely.
There are literally thousands of applications that have been built specifically for WordPress designed to make your blogging experience the best one possible.
Oh Yeah, its Free.
Themes, there are thousands of free and paid themes you can use to create that perfect look for your blog. ( A theme is simply the basic layout of your blog that you then build on)
You can easily mess around with the code of your blog to really make something special and unique. ( Best not to do this as a beginner though)
The Alternatives
Now aside from the many other blogging platforms out there today such as Blogger.com or Weebly.com which do provide excellent service as a second choice, you are going to have to consider an alternative to WordPress.org and that’s its sister WordPress.com. Its the same company behind both and there are similarities in each case but the one big difference here is that with .com you do not need to host the blog yourself. What I am saying is that WordPress.com will keep your blog visible on the internet for free as opposed to .org where its up to you to host your blog on the internet.
But that is really the only major reason for you ever to use .com in my mind because, for the sake of hosting your own blog for around $5 a month, using .org can get you so many more benefits over using .com. With that in mind though if your blogging experience is really for your own pleasure and nobody else’s then I highly recommend any of the other options mentioned here.
The Pro’s and Cons of .org and .com
Unlike .com the .org system allows you to monetize your blog. Meaning you can place ads or affiliate links to any products you so choose, allowing you to turn your writing into an income. This is probably the biggest advantage of .org. You see when you host it yourself you basicly have full control over it but with .com you are at the mercy of there rules.
With .org you can have your own domain name where as with .com part of your domain name will be basicly an advert for WordPress. This is true of all the the blogging systems that provide free hosting. You can often pay extra to have your own personal name but if so why not just get .org.
You cannot upload new plugins to .com to enhance your blog. Considering there are thousands to be had then you are missing out on a lot of fun. ( Plugins are applications designed to help you get the best from your blogging experience).
Only in .org can you have access to the files, allowing you to mess around with the code. In .com there is no such access. Although messing with the code will require knowledge this knowledge is not hard to come by even if you have to pay someone.
Because of the plugin situation using .org really allows you to optimize your blog for search engine ranking. Meaning in .org you will be able to reach that mecca called “First Page” a lot easier.
In Closing
Of course Using WordPress.org is not perfect. As mentioned you will have to pay for hosting and if you are new to all this then installing the system on your computer can seem a bit of a nightmare no matter how easy WordPress or the computer geeks say different.Yes there are these easy install third party hosts available but even they are no walk in the park if all this is very new to you.
Having said this Choosing WordPress and in Particular WordPress.org as your prefered choice for blogging in my mind is a must for anyone who is serious about creating professional looking blogs and websites today.
